Hi, I’m May — the maker behind Bits of May NL.

Originally from France and now living in Newfoundland and Labrador, Bits of May began somewhat unexpectedly. After watching countless candle-making videos, my husband Mitch surprised me with a candle-making starter kit. What started as a little hobby quickly became a true passion — and my favorite creative escape.

I fell in love with the process: slowing down, creating with my hands, experimenting with new ideas and turning little inspirations into something tangible. I can spend hours in my basement studio testing designs, pouring wax and dreaming up new collections.

Over time, Bits of May grew beyond candles into eco-resin creations, decorative pieces and themed collections. I love creating as much of each finished piece as possible — from the candle itself to its container, decorations and smallest details.

Every creation is handmade here in Newfoundland and Labrador, inspired by the beautiful coastal world around me, my French roots, and my love for soft, timeless and cozy aesthetics.

There are no big factory batches here. Each piece is made one by one, by a real person, with care, patience and creativity. And because handmade isn't meant to be perfectly identical, those little variations are part of what makes each creation special.

Bits of May has also become something I get to share with others through workshops and creative events. Teaching, creating and connecting with people has become one of my favorite parts of this little adventure.

And none of it would be quite the same without my little team — Mitch and our dog, Freya — who come to markets, help with workshops and hear more about candles than they probably ever expected. ♡
